Its outer area of about 226 sq in holds a full batch of cookies (about 12–18 depending on spacing), a rack of chicken thighs, or a sheet of roasted vegetables. The 0.5 in gap between the outer and inner dimensions on each side comes from the pan's rolled rim.
The quarter sheet pan at 13 × 9.5 in (330 × 241 mm) has about 123.5 sq in of outer area — close to one quarter of the full sheet.
